TortoiseSVN icons not showing – Windows 10
Recently I have faced this issue in my PC, and after lot of googling I have fixed it. So I would like to share this in my blog, which will be helpful to someone who faces this issue. Many of the developers / companies use version control system to keep their code safe as well as a backup.
For windows operating system, the most popularly used SVN client is TortoiseSVN. The TortoiseSVN works well with the older version of Windows operating system without this issue. But after upgrading to Windows 10, the TortoiseSVN icons not showing in our project folders.
This is because the Windows 10 OS uses nearly first 14 icon overlays ( not sure) . So lets see how I have solved this.
Most of the icon overlays are occupied by onedrive by default. This is why the tortoiseSVN icons not showing. So what I did is, Open the command prompt and enter regedit and click “Ok”.
This will open up Registry editor. On this window, navigate through the below path,
Computer -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers
Under the ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers you can see list of icon overlay installed in the system. What I have done is renamed all the tortoise svn related icon overlays by adding three spaces before the name. Because you can see the onedrive icon overlays uses a single space before their names where as google drive uses two spaces.
After changing the name restart the system and now you can see the icons are showing again. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any issue or doubt through comment section.
